Cine film transfer in Melbourne

16mm arrived in 1923 as a cheaper alternative to 35mm, and 8mm followed in 1932 as a cheaper alternative to 16mm. We transfer home movies and family recordings on these formats.

If you are not sure which film you have, bring the reels as they are. Each gauge has its own page with more detail:

  • 16mm: see our 16mm to DVD transfer page.
  • Standard 8mm: see our 8mm to digital files, USB or DVD page.
  • Super 8: see our Super 8 to DVD transfer page.
  • 9.5mm: see our 9.5mm film transfer in Melbourne page.

How your transfer is done

Your reels are transferred here in the shop.

For 8mm, Super 8 and 16mm film, we offer frame-by-frame scanning, with standard-definition output and a high-definition option. Roughly 3,600 individual frames are captured from every 50 feet of 8mm film.

What you get back, and how long it takes

Choose a DVD or a digital movie file. Film Reels to DVD explains the disc option; a movie file lets you make your own edit or copy the recording for family.

For cine film transfer in Melbourne, ring (03) 9855 0006 and we'll quote on your reels. The price is fixed and agreed at the counter before work starts, with no hidden fees.

How long depends on the number of reels, their condition and how busy the lab is. We never charge extra for a rush job.

Video and camcorder tapes

We also transfer VHS, VHS-C, MiniDV, Video8, Hi8, Digital8, Beta and Umatic to DVD or digital files. Tape transfers are charged per tape, with cleaning included. Customers can bring their own USB for files.

Video8, Hi8 & Digital8 Transfer and Conversions covers those camcorder formats. See Other Transfer Services for more of the work we do.

Slide and negative scanning, audio cassettes, reel to reel and vinyl

We scan 35mm slides and medium format negatives to digital files. Slide scanning in Melbourne explains the slide service.

Audio cassettes, reel to reel tapes and vinyl LPs can be transferred to CD. Converting existing DVDs and CDs to USB is also a frequent job. We no longer process film. Scanning prices are fixed and agreed at the counter.
