PhotoQ is an independent photo lab in Melbourne, based in Kew East. The shop has been trading since 2000. The business was purchased by the owner Paul it in May 2002, when it stood at 143-145 High Street Kew, and moved to 605-607 High Street, Kew East in January 2020. We have been printing, scanning and framing in the Kew area for over twenty years.
At our independent photo lab in Melbourne, your photographs stay in the shop while the work is done.
We stopped processing film in April 2023. As film declined, we moved to digitising old media and custom work for people and businesses. We still scan existing negatives to digital files and print from them. See Negative scanning in Melbourne for that service.

PhotoQ is owned and operated by Paul. Paul has 24 years in the trade, and Nathan has 15 years.
Paul makes each custom picture frame and stretches each canvas himself. Every image is colour adjusted individually before printing. We often re-do work a customer was unhappy with elsewhere. Custom Picture Framing and Canvas Prints explain those services.
You can order digital photo prints and enlargements here or bring existing negatives and slides for scanning. We also make canvases and custom frames, and carry albums and ready-made frames. Movie film and video tapes can be transferred to digital files on USB or hard drive, or to DVD.
Prints up to 8x12 inches (20x30 cm) are made on Fujifilm Frontier printers with genuine Fujifilm gloss and lustre paper. Larger prints use our wide format Canon printers with a lustre finish. We scan photographs on Epson flatbed scanners, most at 600dpi, with higher resolution on request. Slides and negatives go on the Fujifilm SP3000. Local businesses and private schools send repeat work. We also work for sporting clubs and hospitals, and have relationships with government archival departments. We print for event photographers and offer fast turnaround for funerals and memorials. Melbourne Photo Services for Funerals explains that service. Converting existing DVDs and CDs to USB is now a frequent job. We also take Passport Photos, printed or supplied as a digital upload.
Come in during the week. We close earlier on Friday, and are closed Saturday and Sunday.
The shop is at 605-607 High Street, Kew East, Victoria 3102, opposite the Harp Hotel. Tram route 48 runs along High Street and stop 39 is right out the front. There are public car parks near us in Valerie Street and Strathalbyn Street, as well as parking on High Street.

Existing negatives and slides can still be scanned and printed, even though we no longer process film.
Every job is labelled with a unique four digit sticker. Originals stay in the shop while the work is done.
Prices are fixed and agreed at the counter before work starts. No hidden fees.
