Video8, Hi8 & Digital8 Transfer and Conversions

We identify each tape and transfer the footage to DVD or a digital file. All three formats are handled at our Kew East lab, so you can bring the tapes in without first deciding which service page matches them.

If you're unsure which tape you have, bring it in and ask. Video8, Hi8 and Digital8 each have a dedicated transfer page, as do related camcorder formats such as MiniDV.

The National Film and Sound Archive recommends digitising videotapes as soon as possible. Heat and humidity can damage tapes. Keeping a separate backup of the digital files gives you another copy of the footage.

Every job is identified with a unique four digit sticker. Your originals stay in the shop while the work is done. Mouldy tapes are usually identified at the counter and discussed with you. Minor mould usually has a good outcome; broken tapes can usually be repaired for a small fee.

Transfers are charged per tape, cleaning included, and you can supply your own USB. Prices are fixed and agreed at the counter before work starts, with no hidden fees.

How long it takes depends on how many tapes there are, how busy we are and the condition of the tapes. We never charge extra for a rush job.

We're open Monday to Thursday 10.00am to 5.00pm and Friday 10.00am to 4.00pm, closed weekends. No appointment is needed. Bring the tapes as they are; we do the labelling.
